Help, without
the hunt.

A few practical answers for getting started, keeping your records safe and finding your way forward.

Make your first document.

  1. Add your business details. Open Business and enter the details and payment instructions you want on documents.
  2. Add a customer. Review the billing name and address. You can reuse this customer for future work.
  3. Create a quote or invoice draft. Add a description, quantity, unit price and any discount or tax. Reusable items can save time next time.
  4. Review before preparing or issuing. Check the customer, dates, currency and totals, then prepare the PDF or finalize the invoice.

Prices exclude tax. You enter the applicable tax rate yourself. Currency changes keep entered numeric prices; they do not convert them.

Documents & payments.

Can I edit an issued invoice?

Issued invoices and their original PDFs are locked to preserve the record. To correct an issued invoice, issue a full credit note with a reason, then create a linked replacement draft when needed. Partial credit notes are not supported in the first release.

Does recording a payment collect money?

No. Payments and refunds are manual records. They do not initiate a bank transfer, process a card payment or confirm that money has arrived. Check the actual payment before recording it. A mistaken receipt can be reversed in the payment history.

How do I save or send a PDF?

Open the prepared quote, issued invoice or credit note PDF, then use Save, Share or Print. Choose a location or destination with the native system controls. Check that the saved or received PDF opens correctly. Sharing a document does not automatically mark it as delivered or accepted.

Why do I need an issuing device and number series?

Independent offline installations cannot coordinate a shared number sequence. Only one installation should issue in a given series. Stop the previous issuer before transferring or recovering, and use a new, never-used series when required. Restoring a backup disables issuance until this setup is completed.

Currencies & saved items.

Which currencies can I use?

BoltInvoice includes 155 currencies. Search by name, ISO code or displayed symbol. Calculations and payments respect the currency’s decimal precision. There is no exchange-rate conversion or separate cash-denomination rounding.

Why can’t I find a saved item in a draft?

The saved-item picker shows items in the document’s currency. Check the currency on the saved item and the quote or invoice. Adding an item copies its values into the draft; later catalogue edits do not change that copied line.

Can I use fractional unit prices?

Yes. Unit prices and quantities can retain up to six decimal places. Line amounts, discounts, tax and payments use the selected currency’s minor-unit precision. Review the calculated totals before preparing or issuing a document.

A backup is worth keeping.

Open Data & Privacy and export a portable backup to a private location. The backup includes business and customer records, financial history, saved items and original PDFs. Saving PDFs alone is not a complete workspace backup.

Backups are unencrypted. Protect the storage location and avoid sending them as ordinary support attachments. Keep a recovery copy before replacing, deleting or transferring a workspace.

Restoring a backup

Restore replaces the current workspace after validation and confirmation. Export your current work first. Use a compatible app version—older builds may not understand newly added currencies or backup formats. After restoring, review the records and set up a new, unused issuing series before issuing again.

If the workspace will not open

  1. Check available storage and retry once.
  2. Preserve the current app and its data. Avoid reinstalling or deleting raw store files as a first troubleshooting step.
  3. If you have a backup, choose Recover from backup on the startup error screen. Select the .simpleinvoice file, review its date and counts, then confirm RECOVER.
  4. Recovery opens a separate, validated workspace and keeps unreadable files. Changes made after the backup date are not reconstructed.

Preserved recovery files can contain business data and remain separate from normal workspace deletion. Contact support before removing them if you are unsure what they contain.

Devices & offline use.

BoltInvoice is built for iPhone and iPad running iOS/iPadOS 17 or later, and Mac running macOS 14 or later. The first release uses an English interface and document labels.

Can I work without an internet connection?

Local workspace tasks, such as creating a quote and preparing its PDF, work offline. Email, cloud file destinations, downloads and other services you choose may need a connection.

Will my records sync automatically between devices?

No. Workspaces are local to each installation; there is no automatic cloud sync. Use a portable backup when transferring records, and review the issuing-device and number-series requirements before using another installation.

Why does the backup file still end in .simpleinvoice?

This is BoltInvoice’s existing backup file format. The extension is retained for compatibility; it does not mean you have opened the wrong app.

Let’s work it out.

Support is provided by Steve Oyugi. Include “BoltInvoice” in your subject so your message is easy to identify.

To help us reproduce an issue, include:

  • Your app version/build, device model and OS version.
  • The steps you took, what you expected and what happened.
  • Whether the issue also occurs with fictional test records.
  • A redacted screenshot if it helps explain the problem.

Please do not send passwords, verification codes, signing keys, customer records or a full workspace backup. If a file is necessary, contact us first to agree what is needed and how to share it. See the privacy policy for support-data handling.
